Focus on profitability before anything else
Ten years ago, I set out to build a real estate technology venture.
It was a different era for tech development—a time of long, drawn-out processes, weekly IT meetings for nearly two years, patent filings, and massive launch events to get agents signed up. The concept was genuinely creative, and I had strategically mapped out every conceivable revenue stream to present a polished deck to investors.
Yet, despite all the planning and passionate push, I failed to deeply ask myself one critical question—a mistake that cost me dearly:
"What is my quickest path to profit, and what specific effort will it take to get there?"
I also underestimated the immense resources required to sustain a double-sided market. Reaching two distinct audiences—real estate agents and consumers—demanded a massive, ongoing educational push and continuous marketing investment to keep both sides engaged. After two years in development and two years in the market, I made the painful decision to shut it down.
While that chapter closed, I have zero regrets. The experience expanded my personal capacity, taught me invaluable lessons about business design, and completely eliminated my fear of pitching to strangers, investors, brokers, and industry leaders.
That journey directly shaped ThePathLR.
While technology continues to evolve, one truth remains unchanged: human connection is not going away. In fact, in an increasingly automated world, authentic conversations and exceptional customer service have become the ultimate unfair advantage.
Both real estate businesses and law firms operate under strict licensed requirements regarding client response times. This regulatory pressure makes it difficult to consistently foster, nurture, and capture overflow opportunities without burning yourself out.
At ThePathLR, we believe great conversations build exceptional businesses. The conversation opportunities created, when handled well by our clients, lead directly to our clients signing agreements and ultimately profitability in their businesses. We take client and prospect engagement off your plate so you can focus on your expertise and scale without sacrificing the personal touch that wins deals.
Before you invest years and capital into your next big idea, ruthlessly validate your shortest path to revenue. And when you are ready to grow, make sure you have the human infrastructure in place to hold onto the clients you work so hard to attract.
How are you currently managing customer relationship care and overflow inquiries in your firm or brokerage?
